Stranded in Vegas!

Hey guys,

I was planning on doing a more elaborate post for the week but unfortunately I was stranded in Las Vegas following a weather-based flight cancellation after my good friend Mike Chaves‘ bachelor party. Above are a couple of sketchbook pages I did while stuck in the airport for 12 hours.

Last week fellow illustrator Ilana Kohn interviewed me for Lost at E Minor’s website. Check out the link below:

the interview

And if that wasn’t enough, here’s a comic strip I did a while back, most of you probably haven’t seen it before.

hey man, great sketches. I noticed (not to compare because I hate comparing artists to other artists, but for sake of commentinggg) your linework resembles that of James Jean’s linework in some of his sketches, your life studies that is like the one you just posted ^ I was wondering if you learned from one of his teachers or if maybe he ever taught you some stuff ha. Anyway great job, I wish I could capture people that way.

Thanks, C.B. and Steve.

James is a great guy to be compared to. I haven’t studied under any of James’ teachers or under the man himself. I think my line quality has evolved on its own over the years, but am flattered by the comparison.

I was surprised to read in the interview that you preferred not to paint – I always enjoyed the paintings you did as a student.

Although the graphicness and draftsmanship was always present underneath…

just found your blog thanks to mrs. tamaki and i wanted to write how much i enjoy your work.
i like the sketches and the different media your using.
its great to see the process and i will scroll up and down on this site for the rest of the evening =)

thx for being inspiring!

M – I don’t dislike painting, but I never fell in love with it like a lot of awesome artists have. I prefer to draw. Maybe some day…

Andreas – When i saw your comment I rushed over to her blog to find where she linked me. Man she can draw hot babes!
