A Busy Week…

Last week was super busy. I recently signed with Gerald & Cullen Rapp, sent postcards, and was added to the iSpot site.

Thursday night was the American Illustration 26 release party. The cover this year was done by my friend Evah Fan, and it looks amazing! My Umberto Eco piece made it into the annual this year. I was fortunate not only preview the book but also to hang out with some of my dearest friends and meet some of my favorite artists, art directors, and designers.

The party this year was a lot of fun, although it seemed a little less crazy than last year. Although I didn’t get to see Gary Taxali spinning, I did witness two powerhouses of illustration, James Jean and Tomer Hanuka in a draw-off at the after party.

One of the art directors I met at the party was Andrew Horton, for whom I had finished this full-page illustration just days before the event. He had a copy of the magazine with him, hot off the presses. Andrew was really easy to work with, and one of the most funniest people I’ve met in recent memory.

The job itself was a really quick turnaround for a full-page, and I was juggling several other assignments at the same time. The article was about how winning leaders make tough calls. Here are the two sketches I sent in:

About three weeks ago, I found out about the process of flatting that comic book artists use to color books. It feels like I just got a brand new pair of sneakers that I can’t wait to go running in.

Thanks for stopping by,

Frank
