Bug – Esquire

Happy Monday,

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been fortunate enough to get some tonally varied assignments. I love the challenge of switching gears from piece to piece once in a while.

Last week I got a call from Colin Tunstall at Esquire asking if I was available to do an illustration for a review of William Friedkin’s Bug. The review was about the up-and-coming actor Michael Shannon’s intense and frightening performance.

&nbsp I tried to communicate this in the sketch and then on the final, implementing more texture than I usually do and compositionally trying to create the sense of anxiety that I got from watching the trailer, which you can view here.

also new this week: illustrations for the New Yorker and ESPN.

enjoy.

Hey frank, it’s elizabeth, I met you at that party with doug and mike and all. anyways, came to check out your work and it’s awesome!!
I’m adding you to my list of favorite artists, that one with the bull rider is bitchin’ and i love the soldier shooting up. anyways, I just work up so it’s too early for me to formulate complete sentences, so I’m gonna be back later and take some time to go through all your work and shit.
peace out!

Frank, these are awsome!, I can’t wait for you to post the colored fight scene from esquire. I also think that the the illustration on top with the tormented figures is killer, the way you draw hands would make fechin jealous.
