Last week I learned that my comic “Hamburgers for One,” has been nominated for a 2011 Will Eisner Comics Industry Award for “Best Short Story.”
Just being nominated is an honor I never would have dared to dream of. I’d like to say “thank you” to DJ Kirkbride, Anthony Wu, Adam P. Knave, and the folks at Image who got behind my story and pushed for it to get the nomination.
I’ve decided to post the entire story here for you to read. Just click on the jpg below and you’ll be able to scroll through all 24 pages (be patient though, it’s a big image). Please feel free to read it, and pass on a link to your friends.

Congrats on the nomination! And thanks for posting the story. Very authentic in every way. The pacing is perfect, and awkwardness just builds and builds, but you don't make it too obvious. The paneling decisions are great as well–the one that really struck me was the shot of the two hands with the money. It heightened the significance for the reader while also giving us a look at what the main character was thinking.

Great stuff. Painful in a good way. Very relatable; I can simultaneously feel sorry for his loneliness, feel frustrated at his awkwardness, and feel worried that I'm more like him than I care to admit. I hope you win!
Incidental technical note: I first tried to read this on an iPhone, then an iPad; I don't know if it's a Blogger thing, a Flickr thing, or an iOS thing, but the image that came up was too low-res to read (just 288 pixels tall). I had to fire up my desktop computer to read it at the proper resolution.

There are a million super heroes and violent fantasies out there with explosions and blood and action, but I dare say I can't think of one that was anywhere near as enthralling at this story. I was pulled in from the start and couldn't tear my eyes away until the expertly crafted end.
I literally ignored a phone call to finish reading this.

Hi Frank. Fantastic work! I have a question: It looks like you're using only two colors, maybe three for the entire comic. Someone I'm having an argument with says they count seven and I told them I thought it was just different tints and shades of the same two or three colors. Am I right?
I remember looking for this short and finding it in Popgun at my local comic book store. Amazing storytelling and pacing, Frank!
